Rory Day at Whole Foods
For one day each quarter, every Whole Foods store donates 5% of its sales to a charitable cause in its community. On August 31, the supermarket chain's Deerfield store chose the Rory David Deutsch Foundation to be the recipient of the program's proceeds.

In addition, the Deerfield store launched a bimonthly "Rory Day" children's activity program in October.

"Working with Mindy and Ross Deutsch, we designed the Saturday program to be in line with the Foundation's mission. Each Rory Day is a celebration of what it means to be a child and have fun," explained Paula Kucharski, Whole Foods' director of marketing and community affairs.

The first Rory Day last fall featured a pumpkin-decorating contest. A "Challah for the Holidays" class followed in mid-December, during which children shaped challah loaves and decorated a giant gingerbread house.

As there is not a charge for these special Rory Day programs, although Whole Foods requests that each participant make a donation to the Rory David Deutsch Foundation. For more information on future classes, please call Paula Kucharski at 847/444-1900.
