Margo Proeh and the talented children who perform in her Children's Theatre
Company deserve considerable applause for the way they've generously supported
The Rory David Deutsch Foundation in 2001 and in previous years.
"We donate a percentage of ticket sales from every show," says
Margo Proeh, an active and devoted mother of four and the founder of the
Lake Forest based Theatre Company. "We typically give around $3000
a year to the Foundation and the children and I are proud to participate."
This year, over 300 children from many different north shore cities and
towns set the stage for performance and fund-raising success. Shows for
the current season, which extends into the New Year, are "Peter Pan"
and "The Music Man." Rehearsals take place at different locations,
but the two main performance venues are the Lake Forest Community Center
and the Winnetka Community House.
Through their participation in the Children's Theatre Company, children
gain more than stage skills. They gain important life skills, as well.
"We try to enhance self-esteem by letting kids be creative, as we
teach them about the Arts," explains Margo. "They learn about
drama, music, dance, and about history.
"They also learn about working together as a team toward a goal,"
she continues, "which is precisely what the Foundation is doing with
everyone contributing toward the goal of finding a cure for pediatric
brain stem tumors. Our kids are involved in this goal, too. We all believe
very strongly in what the Foundation is doing and supporting Foundation
efforts is a great way for the kids to learn about and experience the
rewards of giving back to the community."
It's a distinct pleasure to place such an admirable program in the spot
light.
