Treasurer’s Report by Enid Deutsch and Ellyn Samsky The net proceeds of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation for the period June 1, 2003 through March 31, 2005 were in excess of $800,000. This raised the total fundraising dollars since our inception to nearly $4.5 million dollars. Our family event “Fit 4 the Stars” held in November, 2004 generated close to $335,000. Our 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney held in September, 2003 raised nearly $35,000. A heartfelt thanks to all who participated in both events. Once again, The Rory David Deutsch Foundation was the grateful recipient of several fundraising efforts sponsored by merchants and donors from the Highland Park area. Olga’s Day Spa, for the fifth year, generously contributed nearly $7,500 by donating the day’s revenues. Campus Colors held a raffle and collected over$5,000 before raffling off a signed Michael Jordan jersey. Elm Place Middle School sponsored a year long fundraising effort totaling over $5,800. In October, 2003 Peter Cetera had a concert and donated a portion of the proceeds towards our efforts; this evening generated close to $3,000. General donations to The Foundation accounted for close to $170,000. These came from a host of individuals and organizations. Many readers of our previous newsletters, “Reaching Out”, responded generously to the coupon included. Others purchased all-occasion donation cards. These cards can be purchased for $5 each by calling the foundation office at 1-888-919-RORY or by visiting our web site. We have made the fifth of ten $200,000 installments to Duke University and the fourth of five $50,000 installments to Children’s Memorial Hospital. As a result of the selfless efforts of all our volunteers and the continued generosity of our supporters, our executive committee again may have the ability to increase the endowment from $1,500,000 to $1,750,000. Together each of these milestones guarantees that The Foundation will go on in perpetuity and make our dream that much closer to a reality – a cure for the devastating disease that took our beloved Rory much too soon.
