Rory Wristbands Race out of Running Rightt “She was working on her Bat Mitzvah,” Bill explained, “and was selling the Rory winter hats and wristbands. I came home one day and saw the dining room table stacked with hats and bands and I realized we could sell them in the store.” The pull-on winter caps and the blue wristbands with The Foundation theme, “Brighter Tomorrows,” were very popular at last year’s Family Event. Bill then asked Ross and Mindy if more wristbands were available. The answer was “a garage full of hats and bands,” and Bill’s response was, “let me sell them When the items arrived, Bill placed them in the store’s most ideal location, the front counter. “Anything we put on the front counter, sells,” he said. “If I could put the whole store on the front counter, it would all sell.” The hats, made by Puma, were a popular winter item. The wristbands fit right into what Bill called the “Lance band phenomena,” initiated by Lance Armstrong. “Middle school kids kept coming in and asking, ‘you guys got the Deutsch bands?’” The sales began in December of 2004 and continued until all the wristbands were sold. Bill is convinced the market is still strong. “I just had a meeting with the Nike folks, and they are still pushing the bands along with a lot of other Limited Edition Lance Armstrong items. A lot of people began selling wristbands, but the only ones that continued to be strong sellers were related to non-profit organizations.” Bill welcomes any opportunity to continue to help The Foundation. “I told Ross we need more wristbands. But I also told him that if they have any other items I can put in the store and sell, I’ll do it!” We appreciate all of Bill Moss’ efforts to keep us in the running for a pediatric brain stem glioma cure.
