Students soar in ‘Rory’s Reading Room’

In addition to the Rory Award, the school continues to keep Rory’s memory alive. As Principal Gordon explains, “There is a very special place in our school library that pays tribute to Rory’s giving spirit and his love of astronomy.”

A door inside the library contains a plaque with a picture of Rory and a sign that reads, “Rory’s Reading Room.” Inside this room is a galaxy of stars, planets, moons and other matter depicting outer space. “The family donated the room, and a decorator and artist contributed the creations that make it so beautiful,” Ms. Gordon said. “The librarian gathers students here for book sharing or story reading, and all of the kids just love it. It’s a very important place for them.”

While she never met Rory, Principal Gordon said Rory and the rest of the Deutsch family are very much a part of the school’s family. “Rory’s two younger sisters are now at the school, and it has meant so much to our students to be able to remember Rory and share in the good work of his amazing family.”
