Children's Memorial Hospital Goal

The Rory David Deutsch Brain-Stem Glioma Research Program at Children's Memorial Hospital has a goal of brighter tomorrows for those afflicted with brain-stem gliomas.

The program was founded in 1998 and is assisted in funding by the Rory David Deutsch Foundation. To reach their goal, the program's doctors and research scientists are taking a multipronged approach to understanding, treating and ultimately curing brain-stem gliomas. They follow ideas from concept, through laboratory investigations and animal research, into clinical trials. They are also working in cooperation with other major institutions to find a cure as quickly as possible.

Several new promising therapies and research studies are underway, involving different chemotherapeutic drugs, novel radiation therapies, gene-based therapies, antiangiogenic agents, the identification of new molecular targets and investigations into overcoming drug resistance.

Another key goal of the program is to disseminate knowledge and aid prompt investigation worldwide. To this end, the program plans to host an annual conference that will bring together researchers from around the world that are involved in the study of brain-stem gliomas.

The Rory David Deutsch Brain-Stem Glioma Research Program is well on its way to developing definitive treatments for children stricken with brain-stem gliomas. The frustration and helplessness we once felt are being replaced by hope and a belief that a cure can be found.
