Two events are better than one
Two fund-raisers to benefit the Rory David Deutsch Foundation were held in the fall and raised an impressive total of $425,000.

The first was "Under the Stars for Rory," held Sept. 28 at Goebbert's Pumpkin Farm in Hampshire, Ill. A group of 650 guests enjoyed family fun and activities such as games, pig races, silent and live auctions.

The second was "An Evening with Coach K" held at the Standard Club in Chicago Oct. 4, attended by 400 guests. Guest speaker was Mike Krzyzewski, basketball coach at Duke University, who gave an inspiring speech, accompanied by film clips of his teams' successes. The event included cocktails, dinner, and an autographed copy of Krzyzewski's latest book "Five Point Play."

The Rory David Deutsch Foundation was established in 1998 in honor of Rory Deutsch of Highland Park, who died at the age of seven of a brain tumor. The foundation funds research in medical laboratories studying pediatric brain tumors and to date has pledged over $2 million to the Duke University Brain Tumor Center and $250,000 to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
