One
dollar for lemonade adds up to big dollars for research
Fitigues co-founders
Steve and Andi
Rosenstein never knew Rory, but were
touched by his story. After learning about the low level of research
funding for the type of tumor that took Rorys life, the Rosensteins
started the Lemonade campaign at 30 Fitigues stores across the nation.
Since
the Memorial Day kickoff, the lemonade stands have sold more than
28,000 glasses of lemonade. The proceeds will go to the Rory David
Deutsch Foundation for pediatric brain tumor research.
Hundreds
of children have volunteered, with new kids signing up every week,
The children sell glasses of lemonade for $1 every weekend in front
of Fitigues stores. In addition, 50,000 lemonade cups were donated
from Solo Cup Company.
Television
and movie star Brooke Shields greeted lemonade stand volunteers
and made a donation at the Santa Monica, California store. A customer
at another store who had lost a family member to a brain tumor made
a $1,500 donation on the spot.
