In memories and might, “Rory’s Star” continues to shine

Artist Tony Fitzpatrick continues to enlighten our world, still crafting one-of-a-kind creations drawn from the life he lives, the lives he has been touched by, and the city he loves. In 2003, The Foundation was honored when his Chicago original “Rory’s Star” put Rory at the center of one of his works. After producing this etching inspired by Rory’s love of stars, Tony generously contributed limited edition lithographs of the piece to The Foundation. Selling for $800 each, all proceeds from “Rory’s Star” are allocated toward efforts to find a cure for pediatric brain tumors. A few of the lithographs remain available, and can be purchased by calling 888-919-RORY.

As Tony states, “A star is eternal, and there is something about Rory that is eternal too.” In supporting the work of The Foundation, he is one of many who continue to help keep Rory’s memory alive. This is an artist who makes a point of preserving treasured memories. Tony’s recently published book, The Wonder: Portraits of a Remembered City, Volume 2 — The Dream City, relies on vivid combinations of drawing, collage, text, and even applied elements such as matchbooks, postcards, and gambling slips to weave tales of his own history and that of his beloved Chicago. This is an artist whose work has become a Chicago treasure.
