Kids Receive RORY Award

Rory’s memory was honored at Indian Trail Elementary School on June 18 when two children received the first annual RORY Award for good citizenship.

Kindergartner, Diana Schalk drew a picture depicting caring and sharing, and third-grader Jake Schneider wrote an essay about helping and sharing. Their names have been engraved on a plaque that will be hung in the school as a permanent memorial to their classmate.

Barry Bakal, a long-time friend of the Deutsch family, originated the award so that future generations of Indian Trail students would continue to remember Rory as a "caring, sweet boy who was always willing to help others.” Barry also made a donation to the Foundation in the name of each Rory award winner.
