Treasurer’s Report

The net proceeds of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation for the period April 1, 2005 through February 28, 2007 were in excess of $800,000. Since inception our total * efforts have reached nearly $5.15 million dollars.

Our family event “Rockin’ Under the Stars” held in October, 2006 generated in excess of $351,000 while our 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney held in September, 2005 raised nearly $20,000. A heartfelt thanks to all who participated in both events.

Once again, The Rory David Deutsch Foundation was the grateful recipient of several fundraising efforts sponsored by merchants and donors from the Highland Park area. Olga’s Day Spa, for the sixth year, generously contributed over $8,500 by donating a day’s revenues. Elm Place Middle School held a Friday night fundraiser earning nearly $13,000. Last June, Barry Bakal, on the hottest day of the summer, played 100 holes of golf. He was sponsored and received pledges for each birdie and eagle attained during the round. He then generously matched these pledges raising close to $20,000. Barry Silver of Northbrook ran a triathlon in Lake Geneva in September. Barry received pledges of over $11,000. The Zeta Beta Tau fraternity at the University of Illinois chose The Rory David Deutsch Foundation to be the recipient of their annual fund raising efforts. A powder puff football game generated over $6,000. They have graciously chosen our Foundation once again as their charity for 2007. This year’s events will take place during the weekend of April 27th. Finally, the Brookdale Senior Center sponsored a dinner for its residents that raised over $4,000. As always, Campus Colors remains a staunch supporter of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation. They donated numerous items used in our October family event; giveaways that were included in every goodie bag as well as many items that were highly sought after in the evening’s silent auction.

Jesse Itzler, from New York, ran the 100 Mile Marathon. He created the 100 Mile Man Foundation, Inc. to benefit numerous charities. The Rory David Deutsch Foundation was fortunate to be the beneficiary of a $25,000 donation.

General donations to The Foundation accounted for close to $120,000. These came from a host of individuals and organizations. Many readers of our previous newsletters, “Reaching Out” responded generously to the coupon included. Others purchased all-occasion donation cards. These cards can be purchased for $5 each by calling The Foundation office at 1-888-919-RORY or by visiting our web site at www.roryd.org.

We have made the seventh of ten $200,000 installments to Duke University. Due to the success of the efforts achieved by the researchers at Duke University, The Foundation’s board has decided to extend their grant from $2 million to $3 million to be paid over five years. The Board has also granted an additional $1 million to Children’s Memorial Hospital; we have already made two payments on this grant. As a result of the selfless efforts of all our volunteers and the continued generosity of our supporters, our executive committee again may have the ability to increase the endowment from $1,500,000 to $1,750,000. Together each of these milestones guarantees that The Foundation will go on in perpetuity and make our dream that much closer to a reality – a cure for the devastating disease that took our beloved Rory much too soon.
