Letter from the FoundersHope...Dream...Imagine...As The Foundation moves toward its ninth year, we are continually overwhelmed by the extraordinary support and generosity by so many individuals, groups, and families. We are reminded of Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s inspiring words spoken to us when we “Teamed up” with Coach K on October 4, 2002 for “An Evening With Coach K.” Coach talked about the importance of being part of something bigger than yourself and competing together on a team—Rory’s Team. A poem describing the necessary ingredients for a successful team comes to mind. It was written in March 2005, by Robbie Deutsch. A Victorious Team An acre of friendship A truckload of determination A garden of athleticism A crater of good coaching An ocean of heart A crescent of potential An empire of spirit A lifetime of practice and teamwork First, you take the acre of friendship and put it in a pot Second, you take the truckload of determination and crunch it into tiny bits and add it to the pot Next, you take the garden of athleticism and add it whole to the pot After that, you take the crater of good coaching and break it in half, then add it Sixth, you add the ocean of heart and stir for thirty seconds Seventh, you pour it all into small bowls while adding crescents of potential Eighth, you pour it all back together while adding an empire of spirit, let it all blend Ninth, you add the lifetime of practice and teamwork and stir for twenty seconds Finally, you take it all together and see your victorious team
Enjoy!! With our supporters and research programs in place, it is evident that Rory’s Team, our team, possesses all the ingredients necessary for victory—our goal of eradicating the devastating disease that took Rory. Robert Goddard wrote “It is difficult to say what is impossible for us. The dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.” The fact that we continue to hope, dream, and believe in our team is truly Rory’s legacy.
